Dr. Jacquelyn Butzen, DPT, PT
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and before I ever thought of what I wanted to be when I grew up, my mom started me in dance class at the age of three. I didn’t know it then, but that was my beginning of an ongoing journey studying movement. When I learned that becoming a physical therapist was a way to encompass my interests in problem solving, optimizing how people move, implementing creative treatment, and most importantly impacting the quality of people’s lives, I knew I had found my calling. I feel that my dance background has given me a keen eye for spotting movement details as well as given me a fresh perspective in the physical therapy world which is reflected in my holistic treatment style and innovative exercises. I have experience in a variety of settings but have gravitated towards the outpatient orthopedic world because that’s where I thrive as a PT and feel I can help make the most impact.
I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Exercises Science from Loyola University Chicago(2016) and earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Governors State University(2020). After graduating from PT school, I decided to move to Austin to start fresh in a new, inspiring city and escape the Chicago winters. I enjoy all things outdoors including hiking, rollerblading, and paddle boarding with my spunky pup, Louie, and therefore Austin seems to be the perfect fit. I also still enjoy dancing from time to time as well as painting/drawing. Life can get so fast and chaotic and so I really value things that help me slow down and be present. It makes my heart even happier by helping others to do the same. I believe there are so many interesting and eye-opening conversations to be had with people from all walks of life and that is another reason I love what I do. I learn so much from my patients as much as I hope they learn from me.
It’s more than movement.
Living an active lifestyle and being able to do the things that make you happy like hike the greenbelt, lift your children, and return to sports or lifting weights are some of the more common goals I hear. We often don’t think of the nerves, muscles, and joints required to work together to make doing these things we love possible and pain-free. We just know how being able to do these things makes us feel.
Really, that’s what The Fix By Jax is all about. Getting you to do the things that bring you joy and seeing what inspires you to move. If we’re being honest, life is hard. When we commit ourselves to this fast-paced society, we tend to neglect our own basic needs like moving our bodies, practicing self-care routines, or even just drinking water. A little movement can go a long way and I want exercise to be used as a tool for unlocking your joy. I’d be honored to be your PT and coach and learn your story on what moves you! Movement is medicine!
